The Dr. Perricone 3 Day Clear Skin Diet

Dieting is one thing I've never done, restrictions just don't work well with me, especially when sugar is involved. But there came a point after weeks of travelling, skiing and eating (what I now regard as) inflammatory foods, when something had to be done. Of course I turn to my good friend, none other than Mr Google (and expert/saviour Caroline Hirons) the two people I'll only ever listen to when it comes to skin.

New year new routine? That was the plan and Perricone MD was the way forward. After deciding on my new regime browsing their website I stumbled upon a The 3 Day Clear Skin Diet. 3 Days to clearer skin? Sounds good to me!

The diet is based around inflammation, and foods that cause it. Such as red meat, sugar and dairy - all the usual suspects. Which made sense to me as I was just in St Moritz eating everything that is not recommended. Lets get one thing straight - you have to be very committed, and in love with salmon  (I'm talking head over heels, want to marry and spend the rest of your life together kinda love).

3 days were spent consuming, seeds, eggs, leaves and salmon. I did alter it a little to fit my needs, salmon was endless in my household which meant, eat until you're full to avoid thinking about the Malted Milk Biscuits in the larder (mmm). Which you'd think wouldn't be satisfying but once you're full, you're full.

By day three, the end was in sight and I started thinking something entirely different: this feels really good. Energy levels were up, I was no longer craving sugar and eating salmon wasn't as much of a chore anymore. They say the more you do the more you want to keep going, and by the fourth day (yes, the diet is only three days) I actually voluntarily had salmon and eggs, again!

Of course nothing was going to change overnight, but over the course of the week redness decreased, especially around areas like my nose and my skin looked less angry and inflamed. In terms of blemishes nothing miraculous happened but they were fewer and less occurrent. Overall three days to a difference. Manageable no?

PS - Special thanks to Jo Malone Sweet Almond & Macaroon Candle for burning the way through the three days smelling exactly like sweets - perfect for tricking my body into thinking it was getting its sugar fix      ;)

  1. oh YES - in fact I'm finishing a Whole 30 today! http://whole9life.com/2012/08/the-whole30-program/ My skin is... unexpectedly good. It's not dissimilar to yours, but red meat is allowed. Might give this 3 day thing a bash if it flares up again. Sounds a lot more manageable than a month. Thanks for the blog, I really enjoy it. Think you might start taking reader questions? I get so many product ideas here, but maybe you could have a reader-driven q&a of what product is good for X look/skin type/colour/whatever?

  10. That looks so good but I can see how you'd get sick of it after 3 days. Were there any other skin cleansing diets that you think might be worth trying?
